Cue the second line. The Cypress Creek Jazz Band returns to Richey Suncoast Theatre on Sunday, January 10, bringing their brassy, joyful New Orleans-style jazz back to New Port Richey after their first RST appearance last January.
Not Your Father's New Orleans Jazz Band
Founded by clarinetist Robin Jodoi, the eight-piece band calls Wesley Chapel and New Tampa home and has been playing across Tampa Bay for more than 15 years. They like to say they are not your father's New Orleans jazz band, and their sets prove it: classic Dixieland and gospel favorites sit right alongside playful surprises with a New Orleans twist.
At their RST debut, they opened with The Muppet Show theme, swung through Sweet Georgia Brown and Mr. Sandman, slipped in a little Enter Sandman and sent everyone home with When the Saints Go Marching In.
From the Straz to the State Fair
The band has played stages all over the region, including the Straz Center, Carrollwood Cultural Center, New Tampa Performing Arts Center, the Dade City Kumquat Festival and the Florida State Fair. They have put their sound on record too, with All That Christmas Jazz and their newest album, Mozart to Mardi Gras.
Why You Don't Want to Miss It
Eight musicians, one big sound: A full New Orleans-style band led by Robin Jodoi on clarinet.
Something for everyone: Dixieland, gospel and a few surprise covers you will not see coming.
A local favorite returns: Tampa Bay musicians on a stage celebrating its 100th year.
Make It an Afternoon Downtown
A 2:00 PM show leaves plenty of time to enjoy Downtown New Port Richey. Grab lunch on Grand Boulevard, stroll along the Pithlachascotee River, then settle in for an afternoon of New Orleans-style jazz. Check New Port Richey Main Street for more happening around town.
