Tarpon Springs is home to a remarkable talent making waves in the theatre world: the distinguished playwright Mary Poindexter McLaughlin. With a knack for crafting compelling dramas and weaving masterful stories, McLaughlin has established herself as a significant voice in contemporary theatre.

Her impressive academic journey includes a BA in English from Stanford University, where her playwriting prowess earned her Stanford's prestigious Golden Grant Award, and an MA in Theatre & Performance Studies from SUNY Buffalo. McLaughlin's exceptional play, "The Buddha's Wife," garnered national recognition by winning the 2019 Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women and was also celebrated as a Finalist in The Landing Theatre's 2020 New American Voices Festival.

McLaughlin's theatrical works have resonated deeply with audiences across the nation, with productions staged in diverse locales spanning from the energy of New York City to the artistic communities of Connecticut, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo, New York. Her creative spirit extends beyond the stage, encompassing poetry and essay writing. She is also a published co-author of "Tantra Yoga: Journey to Unbreakable Wholeness," showcasing her diverse intellectual and creative pursuits.

Beyond her writing achievements, McLaughlin actively contributes to the theatre community as a director and a passionate teacher of theatre arts, generously sharing her expertise with aspiring artists. Her commitment to excellence is further underscored by her membership in the esteemed Dramatists Guild and SAG-AFTRA.
