1776 the Musical in New Port Richey — July 16–19

This week, one of the most pivotal stories in American history takes our stage. 1776 — the Tony Award-

winning musical about the birth of a nation — opens Thursday, July 16, for five performances only.

And the timing is something special. In 2026, America marks its 250th anniversary. Here at Richey Suncoast Theatre we're marking our 100th. There is no better way to celebrate both than with the show that dramatizes the very summer our nation began.

The Room Where It Happened

1776 carries you into the sweltering summer of 1776, inside the Second Continental Congress as it argues, stalls, and finally dares to declare independence. John Adams pushes. Benjamin Franklin charms. Thomas Jefferson labors over the words that would change the world. With music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, it's a portrait of the founders as they really were: brilliant, stubborn, funny, and fully human.

It's witty, it's stirring, and it earned Broadway's highest honor — the Tony Award for Best Musical.

History, in a Historic Setting

There's a rare kind of magic in watching this story unfold inside a theatre that has stood for a century. As we celebrate 100 years on Grand Boulevard, 1776 invites you to step back to the summer that started it all — brought to life by your neighbors, right in the heart of downtown New Port Richey.
